Paul Finebaum Points to Kirby Smart Stat That Should Worry Georgia Fans

Georgia and Alabama are both undefeated heading into Saturday's clash, but one stat is already working against Kirby Smart.

No. 6 Alabama is set to host No. 2 Georgia in one of the most potentially consequential games of the college football season. The bitter SEC rivals each come in undefeated at 5-0 and looking like two of the best teams in the country. But a loss at this stage of the season could have massive implications for College Football Playoff seeding.

On Friday's episode of "Get Up," ESPN's Paul Finebaum pointed to one shocking Kirby Smart stat that doesn't bode very well for the Georgia Bulldogs. "It's bigger for Georgia because Georgia has an Alabama problem, and so does Kirby Smart," Finebaum said. "I'm well aware that Georgia won the last game, it was in the SEC Championship Game ...

The problem is that Kirby Smart has yet to beat Alabama in the regular season. Alabama has beaten Georgia in the regular season every game since 2007, when Matthew Stafford threw a touchdown in overtime to beat Nick Saban in his first season." He won back-to-back national titles at Georgia in 2021 and 2022, regularly churns out elite NFL talent, and has built Georgia into the most consistent program in the sport.

But for all that he's accomplished, there's one school he still hasn't been able to get past: Alabama. Smart's all-time record against the Crimson Tide is just 2-7, with his only two wins being in the National Championship Game in 2022 and the SEC Championship Game last year. That means he still doesn't have his first win against Alabama during regular-season play.

Most of those losses came against Saban, but Kalen DeBoer is still responsible for two of them. Kickoff between Georgia and Alabama is set for 7:30 p.m.

ET at Bryant-Denny Stadium, with the Crimson Tide listed as narrow 1.5-point favorites.
