The Jacksonville Jaguars traded up in the 2025 NFL Draft to acquire combo wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter with the No. 2 overall pick. Hunter played both sides of the ball for the Jaguars in his rookie season, but ultimately suffered a season-ending LCL injury in late October. Now as he gears up for his second NFL campaign, it appears Jacksonville plans to use him more on the defensive side.
Hunter did the vast majority of his training camp work at the cornerback position. He's listed as a starting cornerback on the Jaguars' depth chart, and a backup wide receiver behind Parker Washington, Brian Thomas Jr. and Jakobi Meyers. During his media availability on Friday, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen responded to questions about how the team plans to utilize Hunter in 2026.

He can run routes in terms of, maybe the ball’s not schemed up to go to him and still get open and still have a chance to play," Coen added. "I’m not, obviously, having a count in my head with how many plays and what we’re exactly going to do with him. But, he definitely will play both.” Hunter made it very clear throughout his draft process that he wants to play both sides of the ball.
However, Coen doesn't feel the pressure to play him on offense. He hasn’t played a lot of football since he got hurt. And it’s really — at the end of the day, this is about winning football games.”
