Jameis Winston took over for New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart after he suffered a knee injury early in Week 2's matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. The veteran backup struggled in his sudden playing time, completing just 11 of his 27 pass attempts for 111 yards and an interception in the 28-6 loss. This past weekend, Winston led the Giants to victory in an ugly, rain-game matchup against the Tennessee Titans.
He completed 14 of his 22 pass attempts for 118 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in the 12-7 win. Earlier this week, the Giants traded for former Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. When speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Winston was asked if he felt "challenged or disrespected" by this quarterback move.
"I feel challenged to get better every single day. I just think that's the makeup of who I am as a person — always looking for ways to build on the positives and eliminate the negatives," Winston replied. "No matter the circumstances, condition, or facts, my mind is on what my heart desires, and that's to be a Super Bowl-winning quarterback." Winston shared his first impression of McCarthy, who took the practice field for the Giants on Wednesday.
"He's curious and he wants to be great. I think anybody that gets an opportunity to come to a new organization with a fresh start wants to make an impact," Winston said. The Giants will welcome the Arizona Cardinals for a Week 4 matchup on Sunday.
