The New York Giants cut veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. earlier this week, abruptly ending his franchise return after just three games. Beckham underwhelmed in his return to the field wearing a Giants uniform, failing to reel in his lone target in Weeks 1-3. When speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Giants head coach John Harbaugh was asked what ultimately led to Beckham's release.
"We just weren't getting enough. It just wasn't working for us," Harbaugh said. "I wanted to be able to give more, I wanted him to be able to do more.
I wanted to get him on the field more. "For whatever reason we weren't able to do it. We weren't able to get it done." Punt returner Braxton Berrios was out of practice squad elevations, meaning the Giants needed to clear up a spot for him on the 53-man active roster.
Harbaugh went on to add that there's no other secret reason why the Giants decided to part ways with Beckham. "I'm not hiding anything. We're trying to be the best team we can be this week," he said.
"I hope he lands somewhere," Harbaugh concluded. "He's a great friend, I love the guy." The Giants will face off against the Arizona Cardinals in a Week 4 matchup on Sunday.
