Geno Smith will be the New York Jets' starting quarterback for Friday night's preseason matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Smith did not take the field for the Jets' preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week as he dealt with ankle soreness. Brady Cook, Bailey Zappe and Cade Klubnik split quarterback reps in that 24-16 loss.
Cook completed nine of his 15 pass attempts for 108 yards. Zappe went 6/10 with two interceptions, and Klubnik finished with 56 yards on 5/7 passing. "Sources: #Jets QB Geno Smith will start tomorrow’s game against the #Steelers," Jets reporter Connor Hughes of SNY reported on Thursday.
The Jets acquired Smith in a trade with the Raiders this past March, reuniting him with the team where he spent the first four seasons of his NFL career. He's reportedly struggled through training camp so far this year. He’s a competitor and he wants to make sure he gets those reps in.
