Jets Snap Historic NFL Drought in Week 4 Loss to Bears

The New York Jets did something for the first time since the end of the 2024 season during Sunday's loss to the Chicago Bears.

The New York Jets delivered a long-awaited sight despite losing to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Down 7-0 in the second quarter, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick cut off tight end Colston Loveland to pick off Tyson Bagent. That's a fairly typical moment on an NFL Sunday, but not for the Jets.

The Jets recorded their first interception since Jan. 6, 2025. They had gone 20 games without a pick and became the only team in NFL history to go an entire season without a single interception in 2025. New York's drought nearly ended sooner.

The defense ran to the end zone to celebrate what appeared to be their first interception in over 600 pass attempts, but an illegal use of hands penalty by cornerback Azareye'h Thomas negated defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat's takeaway. Fitzpatrick's pick counted, and the Jets leveraged the turnover to kick a field goal for their first points of the game. Although the Jets also recovered a D'Andre Swift fumble, they still lost 23-12 at Soldier Field.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn wasn't too excited about his defense's interception following their third straight defeat. "Honestly, I'm not worried about that," Glenn said after the game, via SNY Jets. "We got an interception, great.

We lost the game." He was more upset about one of their 12 penalties nullifying the early takeaway. Given a second chance, the Bears culminated a seven-minute drive with a touchdown to take the lead and never look back. "That's the issue that we had," Glenn said.

"That's what I'm really pissed at more than anything is just the penalties ... To me, that's what I'm thinking about. Anything else, really, is just white noise to me.
