The New York Giants acquired JJ McCarthy in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings earlier this year, bringing in the former first-round draft pick in response to the season-ending knee injury suffered by Jaxson Dart. McCarthy stepped in at quarterback for the Giants after Jameis Winston threw his second interception of the game in Sunday's Week 6 loss to the New Orleans Saints. And through his one quarter of action, McCarthy did enough to secure the QB1 job moving forward.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh officially announced McCarthy as the team's starting quarterback for Week 7's matchup against the Houston Texans. When speaking to reporters on Wednesday, McCarthy said he spoke with Dart after securing the Giants' starting quarterback job. Just normal conversation.
We're both rooting for each other," McCarthy said. "It's been all great conversations. I love Jaxson." McCarthy completed 11 of his 21 pass attempts for 243 yards, one touchdown and one interception through just one quarter of action this past Sunday.
He also led the team in rushing with 26 yards. McCarthy and the 3-2-1 Giants will kick off against the Texans at 1 p.m.
