Florida could flip the nation's No. 1 WR this weekend as Jon Sumrall's Gators look to bounce back against South Carolina.

Florida has been one of the best stories of the 2026 college football season. First-year head coach Jon Sumrall already has the Gators at No. 16 in the AP Top 25, and they climbed as high as No. 8 after an emphatic 52-28 win over Ole Miss in Gainesville. Florida has just one loss on the season, a shocking 45-17 blowout at Missouri last weekend, but its College Football Playoff hopes remain alive thanks to a friendly schedule down the stretch with games against Oklahoma, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Florida State.

The Gators host South Carolina on Saturday, a perfect bounce-back opportunity against a 2-3 Gamecocks squad. Florida is an 11.5-point favorite. The weekend could also see Sumrall land one of the biggest recruits in the country: five-star wide receiver Easton Royal.

Now, the Gators are set to host him again with the team riding a hot start under Sumrall. Florida could walk out of the weekend at 5-1 and with one of the biggest recruiting flips in college football.

Royal, a New Orleans native, has been one of the most talked-about high school prospects for years. During his 2024 sophomore year at Brother Martin High School, he put up 1,149 all-purpose yards and 14 total touchdowns. He followed that with a breakout 2025 season, posting 2,095 all-purpose yards and 29 total touchdowns and earning 5A Offensive MVP and first-team all-state honors from the Louisiana Football Coaches Association.

He's also a multi-sport athlete who has set school and state records in track. Flipping Royal would almost certainly push Florida inside the top 5 and give the Gators a major boost as they head into the second half of the 2026 season.
