The LSU head coach found himself at the center of controversy this week after signing former Cleveland Browns tight end Dae’Quan Wright and ex-New Orleans Saints defensive lineman Zxavian Harris thanks to a TRO granted by a Luisiana judge that allowed some players a fifth year of college eligibility despite having signed NFL contracts. Kiffin defended his actions, stating if he didn’t sign those players other teams would have. He also doubled down on his stance that the SEC shouldn’t be allowed to pass a rule banning member schools from signing those players on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday, stating conferences don’t have the power to ignore court orders.
But a report from John Talty and Chris Hummer of CBS Sports on Tuesday night claiming Kiffin was the driving force behind the lawsuits that led to the TRO — and the can of worms its subsequently opened — made Kiffin look even worse.
