Lane Kiffin made his highly-anticipated return to Oxford's Vaught-Hemingway Stadium to face off against his former Ole Miss team as head coach of the LSU Tigers. The Ole Miss crowd was electric on Saturday night, giving Kiffin a not-so-warm welcome home. Pete Golding and the Rebels notched a 32-24 victory over Kiffin and the visiting Tigers, putting on a show for the home crowd in Oxford.
The game brought in an all-time program attendance record of 70,033 fans in the stadium. After the loss, Kiffin admitted that this raucous environment felt like walking into a "buzz saw" for his team. So, I guess I had to leave to get them to do that," Kiffin said when speaking to reporters after the game.
He notched season-opening wins over Clemson and Louisiana Tech, but the first loss of his Tigers coaching career comes at the hands of the Rebels. Ole Miss is 3-0 to start the season as they prepare for this coming weekend's road-game matchup against the Florida Gators.
