And if you're like me, you didn't even start thinking about baby names until you found out you were pregnant. And if you're also like me, you started binge-watching Law & Order: SVU while you were pregnant and realized you just made your job picking a baby name infinitely harder. I could tell a few months into the process that my husband was getting a little irritated with me when it came to choosing a name.
We'd spend time talking about a name and do all the normal things parents do. We'd say the name out loud a few times, we'd picture who this specific child would be, and we'd consider how it sounded as a full name with first, middle and last. You want the entire thing to flow nicely for the occasional moment when a full name is required like graduation or a particularly bad punishment.
We'd also think about all the nicknames. How did they sound with our last name? Because realistically, the nickname is what the child is going to be called, so it's important there's a good nickname/last name flow.
One thing I did that I'm pretty sure other people don't do, though, is consider who these people were on Law & Order: SVU. And not because I'm some crazed fan. Fortunately, there was one name that we liked that actually doesn't really appear until much, much, much later in the series.
