LeBron James responds to rumors involving Joel Embiid as the 76ers prepare for the new NBA season with a revamped roster.

LeBron James has addressed a report about his new Philadelphia 76ers teammate involving Joel Embiid. Putting an end to speculation that he confronted the star center during a recent practice. The rumor surfaced during Monday’s preseason matchup between the 76ers and New York Knicks.

According to Bleacher Report’s Zach Bachar, Knicks broadcaster Mike Breen said he had been told that Embiid arrived a few minutes late to practice and that James “let him hear it.” The report quickly gained attention because James and Embiid are entering their first season together in Philadelphia. However, James has now strongly pushed back against the claim. James addressed the story on Instagram, posting a cap emoji before writing, “He ain't been late so stop the lies.” That response appears to dismiss the entire premise of the report, although Breen did not identify the person who allegedly provided him with the information.

No additional evidence has emerged to support the claim. The story also comes amid heightened expectations surrounding the Sixers. Philadelphia added James and Jaylen Brown during the offseason, creating a star-studded core alongside Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe.

James has also made accountability a theme since joining Philadelphia. During his Mind the Game podcast, he said, “The only thing that matters is what we preach every day and how we’re gonna hold each other accountable.” The Sixers have already seen some encouraging signs in preseason, defeating the defending champion Knicks 120-97 behind 22 points from Brown while James, Embiid and Maxey sat out. However, Philadelphia also suffered a major setback when backup center Ariel Hukporti tore his right Achilles in the opener and was ruled out for the season.

Hukporti underwent surgery Tuesday, leaving the Sixers with a significant depth concern behind Embiid.
