The NFL is handing out significant fines for players' celebrations for the first two weeks of games, including Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown getting fined for his multiple gestures against the Buffalo Bills. Brown had a huge game for the Lions in their "Thursday Night Football" game, a 41-31 loss to Josh Allen and the Bills.
He finished with 142 yards and two touchdowns on nine receptions courtesy of Jared Goff. Brown pretended to smoke an imaginary cigarette or joint multiple times during the game. The Lions receiver addressed the situation on Thursday while speaking to reporters, indicating he was hit with nearly $60,000 in fines for the celebrations.

Brown's penalties should fall under unsportsmanlike conduct, for which several other receivers will also receive fines. A report from The Athletic on Thursday that the Cincinnati Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins received fines for their celebrations during the first two games of the season, both wins over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Houston Texans. While the players both stated in interviews that their celebrations incorporated a popular move used by WWE superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, the NFL apparently determined that the two players were making an obscene or offensive gesture.
Chase and Higgins seem like they'll pay their fines and start using a different celebration. Brown doesn't seem pleased about his fines and claimed he's appealing, so it should be interesting to see what the NFL's decision is if he moves forward with that. In one of his touchdowns against the Bills, he is seen pretending to light something up and then holding an imaginary object to his lips as if smoking it.
So far this season, the four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver has 19 receptions for 209 yards and four touchdowns. He remains a major part of the offense along with running back Jahmyr Gibbs. After that tough loss last Thursday, the Lions are hoping to get back on track on Sunday.
