Maple Leafs Acquire Former Top NHL Prospect From Canucks

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired former NHL top prospect Aatu Raty from the Vancouver Canucks in an intriguing deal.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are continuing to shake up their roster, as they have made another trade. The Maple Leafs have announced that they have acquired forward Aatu Raty from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forwards Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr. Raty was just placed on waivers by the Canucks on Wednesday and passed through unclaimed.

Yet, with this trade, he has now found his new home with the Maple Leafs and will be looking to impress. The Maple Leafs bringing in Raty is an interesting move. The 23-year-old forward was once considered a top prospect in the NHL.

However, the 2021 second-round pick has never blossomed into the top-six forward many expected he would become. Although this is the case, Raty has shown that he can be a decent bottom-six defensive forward in the NHL. The four-year NHL veteran has been especially effective at the dot, as he has won 59.2% of his career faceoffs.

This included him winning 60.5% of his faceoffs last season with the Canucks. Now, Raty will be aiming to take that next step with his development as a Maple Leaf. At a minimum, he should be a solid pickup for Toronto's forward depth.

In 118 career NHL games split between the New York Islanders and Canucks, Raty has posted 14 goals, 15 assists, 29 points, and 272 hits.
