Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs handed the Las Vegas Raiders their first loss of the season, 30-27, in a game the Raiders had a chance to tie or win in the late stages. However, the Chiefs' defense held off Kirk Cousins and the Raiders' attempts to get into field-goal range in the final moments. Several days after the loss, defensive star Maxx Crosby shared his honest assessment of the "great battle" and the Chiefs' superstar quarterback.
"Got some good hits on him. It's just funny: every time I hit him, he rolls over, and then he just peeks at me just to see — and I'm always my face just staring at him," Crosby said. Like he's the best quarterback of our generation, you know what I mean?
And for me, I want to be looked at as the best at my position. I think when you have two division rivals willing to go to the [expletive] farthest extent to go win, it makes for great entertainment and great competition," he said on "The Rush With Maxx Crosby" podcast. The Raiders' Quay Walker recorded the only solo sack of the game on the Chiefs' quarterback. Even though Crosby got to Mahomes several times, the star quarterback still delivered. He completed 15 of 30 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns in the close win over their division rival.
The Chiefs also received a big boost on the ground from their offseason acquisition, Kenneth Walker III. He finished with 177 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the win. It dropped Las Vegas to 3-1 for the season, with the Chiefs remaining undefeated at 4-0.
However, this Raiders team has defied expectations early and seems like they could be contending with Kansas City and possibly Denver for the division toward the end of the season. The Raiders will next visit the New England Patriots on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. ET in what could be an intriguing clash between early AFC contenders.
