Meta Reaches $16bn Settlement: Map Shows Payouts for Each State

Meta Platforms has reached a settlement with over two dozen states in the landmark social media addition case. According to a filing with the District Court for the Northern District of California on Wednesday, Meta has agreed to pay up to $16.7 billion to avoid the case going to a jury trial. The company denies the allegations that it “used its technology and social media platforms…to entice, engage, and ultimately ensnare youth and teens,” or that it has “any liability to the Plaintiffs”—a group of 29 states involved in the suit.

Instead, Meta will pay out this amount to nearly every U.S. state and its territories over ten years.
