The Atlanta Falcons/New Orleans Saints matchup on Monday night is no different. And when the teams go head-to-head on Oct. 5, it appears that the those same feelings will be held by the participating teams' signal callers. One of whom – Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. – had some choice words to say about his upcoming opponents.
That's probably the only nice thing I can say about them." ESPN's Marc Raimondi quoted Penix as saying on Thursday. Trash talk is fairly natural before games, especially in-division matchups. Coming off a successful return to action on Thursday night in the Falcons' triumphant first win of the season at the Green Bay Packers, throwing for 256 yards, 1 touchdown and interception apiece with a 72% completion percentage, it is fair that the Falcon may be feeling more boisterous than usual.
Historically, Penix has never beaten New Orleans, having lost 17-20 in his first and only game against them to date back in November 2024. He will be hoping to change that on Monday night. The Saints will definitely not be a rollover, and under second-year quarterback Tyler Shough they have become one of the more exciting must-watch teams in the entire league.
Shough remains at times inconsistent, yet incredibly dynamic in the passing game. The 27-year old leads the league with 132 passing attempts through 3 games in the Saints' aggressively pass-heavy offensive setup. The Falcons meanwhile will look to continue their dominance on the ground coming off a monster 242-yard, 3 touchdown rushing game against Green Bay, where Bijan Robinson (and at times Brian Robinson) looked borderline unstoppable.
