Oilers & Penguins Complete Intriguing 1-for-1 Trade

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers have made a one-for-one trade during the early stages of the 2026-27 season.

The Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins have made an early-season trade. The Penguins have announced that they have acquired defenseman Spencer Stastney from the Oilers in exchange for forward Filip Hallander. This is an interesting one-for-one trade between the Oilers and Penguins.

Both Stastney and Hallander had become the odd man out on their rosters, so it makes sense that they are now getting fresh starts. It is no secret that the Penguins need more depth on the left side of their blueline. Stastney will now provide them with just that and should compete for a spot on their bottom pairing.

Yet, even if he ends up being an extra defenseman for Pittsburgh, he could still be a decent addition. Hallander, on the other hand, will give the Oilers another option for their bottom six. Edmonton has been dealing with a lot of injury trouble with their forward group early on this season, so it makes sense that they are adding a player like Hallander.

Stastney has not played an NHL game this season but had two goals and 10 points in 66 games last season split between the Nashville Predators and Oilers. Hallander, on the other hand, has one goal and three points in two NHL games this season. This is after he had one goal and four points in 13 games for Pittsburgh during the 2025-26 season.
