The Ole Miss Rebels are 3-0 and No. 4 in the country after beating LSU 32-24 in Lane Kiffin's highly anticipated return to Oxford, Mississippi, last weekend. After a narrow 41-38 win over Louisville in their season opener, the Rebels notched a convincing 41-9 win over Charlotte before pulling off the upset over LSU. Through it all, Trinidad Chambliss has looked like arguably the best quarterback in college football, and on Thursday, he received a huge compliment from his coach, Pete Golding.
"People forget that those first two games of last year, he wasn't the starter. And so he came in very humble and worked extremely hard and then got his opportunity when Austin Simmons went down in that Kentucky game and didn't look back," Golding said. "But I think his attention to detail and his focus, you know, how close his relationship is with the Lord and how big that is for him, I think a lot of people don't realize.
And the positive leadership that he has on our team, just based on who he is and how he approaches his work, is something I hope my two boys, you know, one day can be talked about the way that I talk about him." He only started for one season, though, in 2024, throwing for 2,925 yards and 26 touchdowns with six interceptions, along with 1,019 rushing yards and 25 rushing touchdowns. He not only led Ferris State to a national title as the starter, but also won GLIAC Player of the Year honors.
Still, when he arrived at Ole Miss in 2025, he was just a three-star transfer prospect and the No. 60-ranked QB in the portal. Then-starter Austin Simmons went down with an injury just two games into the season, and Chambliss took over and ran away with the job. He finished the 2025 season with 3,937 passing yards and 22 touchdowns against three interceptions, completing 66.1% of his passes, along with 527 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns.
He earned second-team All-SEC and SEC Newcomer of the Year honors while leading the Rebels to the College Football Playoff.
