The Minnesota Lynx picked up a win over the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday night and are hoping they didn't lose Olivia Miles to injury before the matchup ended. The talented rookie, who was the team's No. 2 pick in April's WNBA Draft, stepped on her teammate Napheesa Collier's foot in the fourth quarter and went down to the court, remaining down for several minutes before limping to the bench by herself. She received some treatment in the tunnel for a while, then returned to the bench but never went back into the game.
Unfortunately, head coach Cheryl Reeves didn't have any additional information regarding Miles' condition or status after the game. "She did tweak it, but I don’t have any idea where it’s at. I haven’t seen the play yet.
So obviously we’re hoping that she’s okay," Reeves told reporters. The Lynx went on to capture a 77-66 road victory, moving to 30-7 on the season, keeping their spot atop the WNBA standings.
Miles is averaging 19.9 points, 6.2 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting a 50.3% field goal percentage. On Wednesday night, she achieved a milestone by passing A'ja Wilson and Paige Bueckers for the third-most points scored by a rookie in a season. She now has 696 points as a rookie and could have more depending on her injury status for the remainder of the season.
In addition to that milestone, she tied the record for the third-most 20-point games by a rookie, recording her 16th last night, per ESPN. The clear frontrunner for this season's WNBA Rookie of the Year and even a potential MVP contender, Miles had been the driving force to help Minnesota remain the best team in the league. With Collier's return, things looked even better for the Lynx's chances of a run towards the WNBA championship.
There are seven games left on the schedule for the Lynx before the postseason begins. They'll visit the Washington Mystics on Friday night and then host Golden State on Monday night.
