The New England Patriots' 2026 NFL season got off to a rough start with their Week 1 Super Bowl rematch against the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday night. Last season's league MVP runner-up Drake Maye put forth a terrible performance in his Year 3 debut, throwing three interceptions in the 13-10 loss. The Patriots were well within field goal range near the end of the fourth quarter, but the 24-year-old quarterback threw an ill-advised pass that was intercepted in the end zone to close out the game.
This sub-par outing from Maye resulted in some serious doubts among NFL fans and analysts as he embarks on his third professional season. Patriots defensive tackle Milton Williams shut down those doubters during a radio appearance on Friday. "Nobody played as good as they wanted to, including me.
You can put the loss on me," Williams continued. "It's not all on one person. ... It's never going to be on one person.
I don't care if he went out and threw five, six interceptions." Maye and the Patriots will look to get back on track in their Week 2 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers next Sunday.
