The Los Angeles Rams are the clear Super Bowl favorites after assembling yet another super team this offseason. However, that's not the only way they could etch themselves into NFL history this year. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford can continue moving up the all-time ranks as soon as Week 1.
The 38-year-old currently has 423 career touchdown passes, which puts him in seventh place all time and only two touchdown passes behind Philip Rivers, who threw for 425 touchdowns in his career. So, with at least a three-passing touchdown performance against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night, Stafford can jump Rivers for the sixth-most passing touchdowns in NFL history. That is certainly very possible, too, given the MVP season Stafford is coming off.
In 2025, he threw for a career-high 46 touchdowns. However, even if Stafford were able to replicate his MVP campaign, he will still finish the 2026 season in sixth place. Brett Favre currently sits in the fifth spot with 508 passing touchdowns in his career.
Nonetheless, it will be an impressive accomplishment for Stafford, and the Rams need him to continue playing at a high level for them to reach the incredibly high expectations most have for the team this season. Since joining the Rams in 2021, Stafford has thrown for 19,407 yards and 141 touchdowns. The names that Stafford has to beat in the top five passing touchdowns in NFL history are Tom Brady with 649, Drew Brees with 571, Peyton Manning with 539, Aaron Rodgers with 527 and Favre with 508.
