The New York Rangers' impressive four-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night, as they lost to the Washington Capitals by a 3-1 final score. The loss was not the worst part of this game for the Rangers, though. This is because superstar goalie Igor Shesterkin was forced to leave the contest during the second period due to injury.
After sliding back into position, Shesterkin's right leg jammed into the post. From there, the Rangers star netminder stayed down before needing assistance to get off the ice. He also left not being able to put weight down on his right leg.
With Shesterkin being the Rangers' most important player, this is just terrible news for the Original Six club. He has been a significant reason for their hot start to the season, so it would be brutal if he ends up needing to miss a lot of time with this injury. The Rangers are also already shorthanded in goal, as backup goaltender Joonas Korpisalo is sidelined with an injury as well.
Due to this, prospect Dylan Garand would be the Rangers' starting goalie if Shesterkin ends up needing to miss a lot of time. In five games this season for the Rangers, Shesterkin has a 3-1-0 record, a .927 save percentage, and a 1.79 goals-against average.
