Lamar Jackson's thumb injury has put the Baltimore Ravens in a difficult spot. The two-time MVP dislocated his right thumb on the very first play of the Ravens' loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday after missing the three previous games with an ankle injury. Jackson is now reportedly set to undergo surgery and be placed on injured reserve, likely to miss the rest of the 2026 season.
Backup Tyler Huntley also injured his toe on Sunday and could now land on IR with turf toe, according to recent reports. That leaves undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano as the next man up in Baltimore. On "The Rich Eisen Show," Chris Brockman floated the idea that the Ravens should consider trading for Jacoby Brissett to keep their season alive.
"The Ravens should trade for Jacoby Brissett to save the day," said Chris Brockman, pointing out that the veteran has just been demoted to Arizona Cardinals' third-string quarterback behind Gardner Minshew and rookie Carson Beck. More news: Jets Are Winning the Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams Trades Brissett started the Cardinals' first eight games this season, completing 63.3% of his passes for 1,719 yards and 10 touchdowns with seven interceptions. He's also coming off a strong 2025 season, where he threw for a career-high 3,366 yards and 23 touchdowns with just eight interceptions.
However, he was replaced by Minshew during Sunday's comeback win over Dallas. Arizona then named Minshew its starter and Beck the primary backup, leaving Brissett the emergency third-string QB. At 33 years old, there's very limited upside with Brissett, and he doesn't have nearly the mobility that either Jackson or Huntley had running the offense.
However, he does have 73 career starts under his belt, and if the Ravens still believe they're a playoff team, trading for an experienced veteran like Brissett would be the best move. Baltimore's quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork also worked directly with Brissett during his three seasons in Arizona, so the two already have a working relationship. But with the NFL trade deadline just a week away, it's a situation worth monitoring. Brissett can't replace Jackson's elite dual-threat ability, but he can provide Baltimore with a steady option capable of keeping the offense in games.
