Seahawks Working Out 2-Time Pro Bowl RB After Offseason Retirement Rumors

The Seattle Seahawks are reportedly working out a veteran running back who hasn't played since the 2024 postseason.

A former NFL star could seek a comeback with the defending Super Bowl champions. Joe Mixon will work out for the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The two-time Pro Bowl running back hasn't played since the 2024 postseason due to a leg injury.

Mixon accrued 8,551 scrimmage yards over six seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals before scoring 12 touchdowns in 14 games for the Houston Texans in 2024. The former second-round pick scored two more times in a pair of playoff games before sitting out the 2025 campaign. Texans insider Aaron Wilson reported in July that Mixon told teammates his "career is over." However, Mixon teased a return by posting a video on Saturday afternoon that ended with him declaring, "Let's go!

I'm back, baby." The Sehawks could make a logical landing spot if Mixon intends to play again. Their depleted backfield can use a boost after losing several key players. Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III left for the Kansas City Chiefs via free agency.

Zach Charbonnet has yet to play this season after tearing his ACL in the playoffs, and first-round pick Jadarian Price went on the injured list with a chest issue before Seattle's Week 4 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Emanuel Wilson capitalized on the unanticipated opportunity, tallying 120 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday. Yet the undrafted free agent has averaged a modest 3.6 yards per carry, and the Seahawks are collectively recording 3.9 yards per run.

The Seahawks can particularly use an immediate boost with a tough upcoming slate against the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, and Chicago Bears.
