Sofía Vergara’s Dating History Is Full of Familiar (and Unexpected) Faces

In case you haven’t heard, Sofía Vergara is out here living her best life following the end of her marriage to Joe Manganiello, and honestly, good for her! Even amid the memoir drama with her ex-husband, Sofía still seems totally loved up with her new beau, businessman Douglas Chabbott, So! If you’re now casually and respectfully curious about Sofía’s relationship history, here’s a primer on who the Modern Family alum has dated over the years (including one surprise suitor whose name rhymes with Mom Snooze).

Sofía married her high school sweetheart Joe and they welcomed their son, Manolo, when Sofía was 18 years old. The couple’s relationship didn’t last, and they ended up divorcing in 1993. As Sofía told Us Weekly in 2025, “He was my high school sweetheart.

We got divorced, but we were always good friends. He lived in Colombia, so it was difficult for him to see Manolo a lot, but he’d make the effort [and they’d] see each other at least once or twice a year.” She added, “He’s always been there, and he has a great relationship with Manolo.” Sofía and Chris Paciello dated in the late ’90s, and the New York Post reported that “they seemed very much in love.” And that's all we know about that!! Sofía and Tom Cruise were linked in 2004, but their brief relationship (if it existed) was never confirmed.

According to a People article that’s since been removed (but is archived over here), Sofía said of the dating rumors, “I’ve only known Tom for a very short time. It’s funny because the media creates what they want to create.” Sofía and Nick started dating in 2010 and got engaged in 2012. But it wasn’t meant to be, and the couple ended their engagement in May 2014.

Sofía confirmed the end of their relationship on her WhoSay account (iconic), writing, “Not that anyone should care, but in order to not give the press the chance to invent crazy and hurtful drama, I prefer to tell my fans personally that Nick and I have [decided] to be apart. We have [been] having too many problems with figuring out how to spend time together and [because] of my work and now his, it’s been getting worse and worse, [and it’s] not fun anymore.” She added that “we are still very close but we [believe this] is the best thing for us right now.” Their breakup took a turn for the surreal when Nick wrote an op-ed in the New York Times, arguing that the embryos he and Sofía froze via IVF had the “right to live” despite her not consenting. He sued and lost but made headlines by reportedly suing the fertility clinic he and Sofía used in 2023.

Sofía’s personal life remained pretty out of the spotlight until she met Joe in summer 2014. The couple only dated for six months before getting engaged on Christmas Eve 2014. They married in November 2015 and seven years later announced their split.
