The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired wide receiver DK Metcalf in a blockbuster trade prior to the 2025 NFL season, signing him on a lucrative long-term extension. In his first season with the Steelers, Metcalf logged career lows in both receptions (59) and receiving yards (850). But as he now enters his second Pittsburgh campaign in 2026, the team appears to have bigger plans for the two-time Pro Bowler.
When speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said Metcalf has been "unbelievable" throughout training camp. The veteran signal caller emphasized Metcalf's importance to the Steelers' offensive system, saying he plans to get him the ball early and often this coming season. He’s our No. 1 for a reason," Rodgers said, via team insider Chris Adamski.
Metcalf leads a wide receiver depth chart featuring veteran addition Michael Pittman Jr., third-year pro Roman Wilson and second-round rookie Germie Bernard. Pittman dealt with a right hamstring injury for much of training camp, but is now healthy and ready to go for Week 1. The Steelers will open up their 2026 schedule with a matchup against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 13.
