Brandon Sanderson has announced he’s started working on The Stormlight Archive 6 and gives Mistborn movie update

Fans of fantasy author Brandon Sanderson are probably familiar with his weekly update videos. These, as the name suggests, are a place for the author to check in with his audience about the state of his numerous ongoing projects, which are visualized through the use of progress bars. In the latest video, Sanderson made the exciting announcement that we will soon see a new progress bar appear.

That's because work on the next Stormlight Archive book has begun. In his Nov. 3 weekly update, Sanderson shared that he has started the outlining process for the sixth book in The Stormlight Archive series. The actual writing of the book hasn't started, but Sanderson has that milestone planned for January 2028.

He'll spend 2027 outlining Stormlight Archive 6, as well as the four books that follow, so he can hit the ground running when he is ready to write. All of that depends on his main goal for next year: writing Ghostbloods 2 and 3. The news that Sanderson has started work on Stormlight Archive 6 comes just days after the author laid out an ambitious release schedule for the remaining books.

Sanderson believes that once he gets to writing the second half of the series (books six through ten), the process will be fast; the first two or three books should release every two or three years starting around 2031. Considering the author is juggling so many other projects, it is somewhat astounding to see him stick to a plan so many years in advance. Speaking of Sanderson's other projects, the author is hard at work on at least two adaptations of his work for Apple after an unprecedented deal was struck between the two parties earlier this year.

A television series based on The Stormlight Archive has been confirmed, but Sanderson is currently focused on the other project, a film adaptation of the first Mistborn trilogy. The author is writing the script for the film himself and has slowly given updates on how that is going. During the most recent weekly update, he shared that the second draft of the Mistborn script is at 35%.

For context, last week Sanderson estimated he had completed roughly a quarter of the screenplay. That means he wrote another 10% in seven days while also hosting a Halloween stream in a Shrek costume. At this rate, maybe we won't have to wait long for the Mistborn film to go into production.
