Titans QB Cam Ward Sends Blunt Message Over No 1 Pick Pressure

Titans QB Cam Ward is 0-5 and ranked last by SI. Asked if the No. 1 pick tag is harder than expected, he didn’t hedge.

Cam Ward isn’t asking anyone for sympathy, even with his team still winless. The Tennessee Titans quarterback, 24, was asked whether going No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft had turned out rougher than he’d pictured. His reply didn’t take long, according to a post on X from Ari Meirov.

He opened with a flat no before explaining why he welcomed the job: “No. We’re in the 1% for a reason. … When they drafted me, it was one of the best days ever. I get to go to an organization that didn’t have the wins, the championships that everybody had, and I get to be a part of it when we get a chance to turn it around.

We have that opportunity each and every week, and I look forward to doing that.” That 0-5 mark followed a 26-3 home loss to the Houston Texans on Oct. 11, the latest blow in a rough second season. In 22 NFL starts, Ward has won three. Through five games, the Miami product has completed 63.2% of his passes for 896 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions, and Tennessee has scored only 58 points.

Outside evaluators have noticed. Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame ranked Ward last among starting quarterbacks after five weeks, a seven-spot drop from the No. 25 slot he held in the preseason. Verderame pointed out that Ward threw for just 70 yards through three quarters against Houston and still hasn’t topped 250 passing yards in a game.

Tennessee has a short-term alternative on the roster. If the turnovers keep coming, head coach Robert Saleh may weigh handing snaps to Mitch Trubisky in search of a spark. Each week brings a chance, as Ward put it.

His next one comes in Week 6, when the Titans visit the Indianapolis Colts.
