Senate candidate Mike Collins in Georgia Friday, attacked the Republican's opponent, Senator Jon Ossoff, by commenting on his looks. In a rally which was interrupted by protesters, Trump described Collins as "central casting," while lashing out at Ossoff's appearance. "I don’t think Ossoff is a good-looking man.
I actually think Mike Collins is good looking man. He’s all man, I'm not sure about Ossoff" Trump told the crowd. "Rick Jackson is a very handsome, distinguished, beautiful looking guy." Jackson is the current Republican nominee for Georgia's gubernatorial race.
Trump went on to say Collins, who currently serves in the House of Representatives for the state's 10th district, was one of the "most respected people in Washington," before again referring to his looks. "If I'm casting a movie for a senator, I like the white hair, I like the big strong build. Big strong guy, that's what I want," he said.
Newsweek reached out to Ossoff's office and campaign for comment Friday afternoon. Ossoff, who won his seat in 2020, has led every public poll released since the summer, with the gap between him and Collins varying by pollster. The latest numbers, from the right-leaning Trafalgar Group, showed Ossoff at 51 percent of the vote compared to 43 percent for Collins, with 5.9 percent undecided, in a survey of 1,101 likely voters conducted October 7-9.
Overall, RealClearPolling showed Ossoff with an average 8.1 percent lead over Collins as of October 9. Forecasters have moved in a similar direction. The Cook Political Report shifted Georgia from "Lean Democrat" to "Likely Democrat" in late September, matching Sabato's Crystal Ball.
Prediction markets have shifted sharply toward Ossoff. As of Wednesday, Kalshi gave him a 95.1 percent chance of winning and Polymarket 96.1 percent, up from just under 75 percent on Kalshi in January. Collins and Ossoff clashed in their second live TV debate Tuesday, covering key platform issues including the war in Iran, affordability, and immigration.
