Anthony Guglielmi, the Chief of Communications for the U.S Secret Service, has been put on leave alongside two other employees. A spokesperson for the Secret Service confirmed in an email to Newsweek that “three non-law enforcement personnel” had been put “on administrative leave pending an investigation into potential misconduct.” The spokesperson added that they are “unable to comment further at this time.” The three individuals were put on leave following the launch of an internal inquiry by the Secret Service’s professional standards office. The grounds for and circumstances surrounding the investigation and subsequent action remain unclear.

The Secret Service spokesperson did not name Guglielmi, but he was named in a separate report by CNN, which first reported the news and cited unnamed sources. Newsweek has contacted Guglielmi for comment. Guglielmi is a communications expert who has served as the U.S.

Secret Service's Chief of Communications for four and a half years, according to his LinkedIn. Outside of the Secret Service, he has held communications roles in three of the nation’s biggest police departments: Chicago, Baltimore and Fairfax County, Virginia. He attended New York University from 1998 to 2002.

The misconduct investigation involves three individuals and is looking at potential misconduct. As part of the probe, the staff members lost their security clearances and access to their work devices. Details as to what the investigation entails are not clear.

The matter is being investigated by the agency’s Office of Professional Responsibility. In a statement to Newsweek about the current investigation, a Secret Service spokesperson said that they are “committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in fulfilling our zero-fail mission of protecting the President and other high-level government officials.” “Our critical work demands that our workforce maintain an unwavering commitment to duty, honesty, and courage in all aspects of their jobs. We will continue to pursue the level of excellence that is worthy of the mission which has been entrusted to us by the American people,” they added.

A timeline of the investigation and suspension is not immediately clear. The Secret Service has faced intense scrutiny in recent years. President Donald Trump has faced several assassination attempts.
