Authorities in Georgia say more than 25 potential victims have been identified in an investigation into Bobby Lee Hart Jr., an alleged serial rapist accused of attacking women in multiple counties in the state over the course of almost four decades. Hart, 53, was arrested in August 2025 and indicted in connection with multiple sexual assaults in Cobb and Douglas counties. He is being held in Cobb County Jail.
At a news conference on Wednesday, Paulding County District Attorney Robert Lane said his office had opened a new investigation into Hart in connection with an alleged assault in the county in 2012. Lane said a woman told investigators that she was offered a ride in Douglas County and transported to Paulding County, where she was sexually assaulted in a storage unit in Hiram. That investigation is "active and ongoing," he added.
Investigators believe Hart may have been operating in the three counties, mostly around the Highway 92 corridor, since 1988, Lane said. The district attorney has urged anyone who believes they may have been victimized to come forward to investigators. He also said Hart went by several aliases, including "Meat King" and "Champ." Hart's father, the Reverend Bobby Lee Hart Sr., told Fox 5 Atlanta that his son had denied the allegations when they spoke following his arrest.
Newsweek has contacted the District Attorney's Office for further comment via an email sent outside regular business hours. At the news conference, Lane said the cases shared similar circumstances. "The victim types are also similar," he told reporters.
"Generally speaking, this individual's modus operandi is that he would target women who were in vulnerable situations, offer them a ride and other assistances, and then once he had them in a secluded location, he would engage in sexual assault." Lane said it took time to move forward with some cases because of difficulties in identifying the suspect. "A lot of people did not know his legal name. They didn't know him," he said.
"They encountered him at random. So they were able to provide a physical description. But other than that, we had to use other means to identify him." Lane has urged anyone with information about Hart or who believes they may have been victimized to come forward.
