The New York Yankees will activate All-Star left-handed pitcher Carlos Rodon for Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. Rodon, 33, has only thrown in nine games for the Yankees this season, spanning a total of 46.1 innings pitched. He has 52 strikeouts during those starts to go with an ERA of just 3.30.

The left-hander will be a big boost to the Yankees ' rotation, which has already been the best rotation in baseball since the All-Star break. Over the last month, Yankees starters have a 2.69 ERA—well clear of the next closest team, the Atlanta Braves, who have a 2.92 mark. Since bouncing back from a rough first season in New York in 2023, Rodon has been a solid arm for the Yankees.

He had an average season in 2024, posting a 3.96 ERA across 32 starts for the team while striking out 195 batters in 175 innings, but had a great year in 2025. Last season, Rodon earned his third All-Star appearance and placed sixth in AL Cy Young voting after making an AL-leading 333 starts with 203 strikeouts in 195.1 innings to go with his 3.09 ERA. The Yankees' rotation has been the best in baseball since the break, so replacing a player would ordinarily be difficult.

In the Yankees' case, though, there's an obvious answer. Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole and 2026 AL Cy Young favorite Cam Schlittler won't be going anywhere, and Ryan Weathers has also been a pleasant surprise since arriving from the Miami Marlins in the offseason. The right-hander has only allowed two runs through 19 innings in August.

Will Warren would usually be the choice, though he has struggled over the past few months despite a strong start to the season, posting a 4.42 ERA on the year. The right-hander has allowed five or more runs three times over the past month, and has also already experimented with an appearance out of the bullpen — coming out to hurl 0.2 innings against the Pirates in July. Max Fried, though, moved to the injured list Monday, so Rodon is likely to claim his spot in the rotation.
