The Atlanta Dream are 22-13 and occupy fifth place in the WNBA standings, and star forward Angel Reese has played a big part in the team’s success this season. Reese is fresh off a 21-point, 10-rebound performance in Atlanta’s 97-82 win over the reigning WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday night. It was the ninth straight game she hit double-digit rebounds, and it marked her 24th double-double of the season, which moves her one step closer to accomplishing a historic WNBA feat.
Reese already has the second- and third-most single-season double-doubles in WNBA history, and she’s only in her third season. She's just five games away from not only breaking the league record for most double-doubles in a season, and she could potentially become the first player ever with 30 double-doubles in a single season. It’s possible Reese could break Thomas' record this season.
Atlanta has nine more regular-season games left before the playoff start in late September. Reese has recorded a double-double in 70% of her games this year, and if that trend keeps up, she could end up with six more double-doubles before the season is over, which would give her the record. In her first year with the Dream since coming over in a blockbuster offseason trade with the Chicago Sky, Reese is having arguably her best season.
She’s averaging a career-best 15.7 points and 1.7 steals per game, and her 12.0 rebounds per game is just 0.6 off her pace from a season ago.
