After the Indiana Fever's disappointing 102-85 Game 1 loss to the Las Vegas Aces in the first-round WNBA Playoffs, Caitlin Clark called her team's performance "sloppy," even grading their defensive effort an " F." Game 2 seemed like a much different Fever team in front of the home crowd in Indiana, and Clark seemed ignited to lead her team, achieving a historic first-half performance. Clark, well-known for racking up points and assists, became the first WNBA player to record a points-assists double-double in a game's first half. Her brilliance was fully on display in the first two quarters as she found teammates early and often for easy buckets.
Clark also made big shots to help her team jump to a 48-43 first-half lead. In the first game of the series, Clark finished with 15 points, 10 assists, and three rebounds. However, she outdid that stat line by the third quarter of Game 2.
By halftime, she'd made history with 14 points and 11 assists. Clark's impressive stats came as her team desperately needed a Game 2 win to prevent elimination, down 0-1 in the best-of-three series.
The former Iowa star was the No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft and has already emerged as one of the league's legitimate superstars. Clark was named the AP's Comeback Player of the Year this past season, as she was on the sidelines for most of her sophomore season due to injuries. She averaged 22.3 points, 8.3 assists, four rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game for the Fever, helping to lead them to the sixth seed in the WNBA Playoffs.
They drew the challenging task of attempting to eliminate the defending champions in the first round. For Clark, it almost seems like breaking records and making history happens with every game she plays. And the stunning aspect of all of that is that she's only in her third season.
