Chiefs Exploring WR Move After Injuries to Rashee Rice, Tyquan Thornton

The Chiefs are reportedly mulling bringing back a familiar face not named Tyreek Hill to bolster their wide receiver room.

Though they haven’t quite reached San Francisco 49ers levels of bad luck with injuries to their wide receivers, the Kansas City Chiefs have been pretty snake-bitten this season when it comes to keeping their pass-catchers healthy. Both Jeff Cladwell and Jimmy Holiday have been on injured reserve since the end of August. Second-leading receiver Tyquan Thornton (11 catches, 291 yards, two touchdowns) is expected to be out 12-16 weeks after suffering a gruesome ankle injury in last week’s 30-27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

And No. 1 wide receiver Rashee Rice (13 receptions, 190 yards, one TD) suffered a hamstring injury in the win over the Raiders, which could affect his availability for Kansas City’s Week 6 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Xavier Worthy (14 catches, 133 yards, one TD) and Jalen Royals (three catches, 17 yards, one TD) are the only other healthy WRs on KC’s roster who’s recorded at least one reception this season, and with injuries becoming so pervasive recently, the Chiefs are reportedly exploring the possibility of adding to their WR room. He signed with the Houston Texans last March and played in just three games for the team last season before being released on Aug. 30.

During his seven-year NFL career, Watson has totaled 90 catches, 1,352 yards, and nine touchdowns across 92 games. He found his most success in his three-year stint with the Chiefs from 2022 to 2024, in which he caught 64 passes for 1,064 yards and seven scores.
