The Kansas City Chiefs signed reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III as their feature running back for the upcoming NFL season. After helping the Seattle Seahawks to their championship title this past season, Walker joins a thin Kansas City running back depth chart following the departures of Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt. On Tuesday, the Chiefs reported that Walker will not practice due to a foot injury issue, according to multiple team insiders.
Walker participated in Kansas City's practice on Monday, suggesting that this is a new injury issue for the 25-year-old ball carrier. The Chiefs' running back depth chart behind Walker features Emari Demercado, Emmett Johnson and Brashard Smith. Walker rushed for 1,027 yards and five touchdowns in his 2025 regular-season campaign with the Seahawks.
He rushed for a game-high 135 yards in Seattle's Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots. The Chiefs will close out their preseason schedule with a matchup against Walker's former Seattle team on Friday night. Walker has until Sept. 14 to recover if he's to be available for Kansas City's regular-season opener against the Denver Broncos.
