Dillon Brooks is entering a new season with the Phoenix Suns after signing a major contract extension in August. But just days before training camp and the preseason get underway, Brooks is facing a legal issue stemming from an incident earlier this year. The latest development comes after prosecutors filed a new criminal complaint in Arizona.
According to TMZ, prosecutors in Scottsdale filed a criminal complaint Monday charging Brooks with misdemeanor driving under the influence. The article stated, "Brooks was then brought to the Scottsdale City jail, where he posed for a mug shot and was processed before being released from custody around 3:30 AM." The Suns have acknowledged the case. Phoenix Senior Vice President of Communications Stacey Mitch told TMZ, “This charge stems from the incident last March.
We have addressed the matter with Dillon and have no further comment.” The latest case follows another traffic-related incident. TMZ reported that Brooks was pulled over in January after allegedly driving 85 mph in a 45 mph zone and was cited for reckless driving. Brooks is preparing for his second season with Phoenix.
He had a career-best 20.2 points per game in 56 regular-season starts last season, then averaged 26 points per game in the playoffs. In August, the Suns agreed to a three-year, $73 million extension that keeps him under contract through the 2029-30 season. The Suns are now heading into the 2026-27 campaign with Brooks under a long-term deal.
As of now, Phoenix has not publicly announced any additional comment beyond the statement given to TMZ.
