Meghan Markle's popularity in the U.K. remains deeply negative, despite a slight rebound ahead of a key public outing.

Meghan Markle is preparing for her first public outing in the United Kingdom in four years this week, days after Prince Harry appeared to be met with boos at a rugby match. The couple will have their first joint outing on British soil since relocating to England in August. This is Meghan's first formal outing in the country since 2022, when she attended Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September and the Platinum Jubilee in June.

It follows reporting that there were boos at a rugby match on Saturday between Leicester and Gloucester while Harry was present. TNT Sports commentator Nick Mullins said "some boos there" before the camera cut away, according to AFP. The respected international press agency ran the headline: "Prince Harry booed at English rugby match." Some questioned whether the boos were aimed at the referee.

Meghan has seen a polling bounce in Britain over the last few months, according to newly released YouGov data, and it remains to be seen whether any of her online critics show up to greet her. Meghan and Harry moved back to the U.K. from California in August, despite years of being more disliked than liked in the prince's home country. Harry has had multiple public outings in England, including in July and September 2025, but Meghan has not returned since 2022.

That year, crowds booed the couple at a Platinum Jubilee church service honoring Queen Elizabeth II, raising the prospect that Meghan could face a similar reaction again. There may be fewer crowds in Nottingham, reducing the chances critics of the couple will be there, but it is unlikely there will be none. There are three stops currently publicized, including a meeting with the Hubb Community Kitchen, a group of women from Al Manaar mosque, who volunteered to provide food to victims of the Grenfell Tower fire, which destroyed a residential tower block in West London in 2017, killing 72 people.

They will also stop by the Community Recording Studio, a youth music project Harry visited in September 2025, when he drew a small, mostly positive crowd. The third destination is youth project Epic Partners, which focuses on mentoring and sport. The Sunday Times first reported the details and quoted a friend pointing to the resonance of Meghan returning to the same city where she conducted her first royal jobs in 2017.

Harry is a lifelong rugby fan, both as a player at Eton College and as a fan watching from the stands. He was patron of the English governing bodies, the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League, which govern two different versions of the game: rugby union and rugby league. Harry watched Leicester play at home against Gloucester in the English PREM match on Friday alongside Andrea Pinchen, Leicester's chief executive, and drank a pint of what looked like beer in the stands.
