Mike Tomlin, the long-time head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, is now an NFL analyst for NBC Sports. Following Wednesday night's season-opening matchup between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, Tomlin gave his prediction for the Steelers' upcoming Week 1 clash against the visiting Atlanta Falcons. Tomlin delivered a harsh message about Tua Tagovailoa, who was recently named the Falcons' starting quarterback.
"It's less about Aaron [Rodgers] for me, and it's more about the quarterback on the other side [Tua Tagovailoa]. His last visit to Pittsburgh didn't go well. I was in the stadium that day.
He got benched," Tomlin said. Tagovailoa's Miami career came to an end following last year's Week 15 trip to Pittsburgh. The QB threw for 253 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the 28-15 loss to Tomlin's Steelers squad.
He was subsequently benched for the final three games of the season, replaced by Quinn Ewers. Tagovailoa acknowledges that his play wasn't ideal in 2025, and is looking forward to his second chance at a starting NFL job with the Falcons. "It's not something that I take for granted," he said earlier this week, via YahooSports.
"There's a lot of things I think I could have done better. Turned the ball over, could have played better. My decision making … in terms of last year just wasn't good." The Falcons and Steelers will kick off at 1 p.m.
