The Washington Nationals have added to their pitching depth, as they have claimed Matt Waldron off waivers.

The Washington Nationals have added a new pitcher to their roster. The Nationals have announced that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Matt Waldron off of waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays. In addition, the Nationals shared that pitcher Connelly Early has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Waldron being claimed off waivers by the Nationals comes a few days after he was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays. Now, he will be looking to impress after getting this fresh start with Washington. Waldron has appeared in 14 games this season split between the San Diego Padres and Blue Jays, where he has posted a 1-2 record, 7.54 ERA, and 31 strikeouts.

Overall, he has struggled this campaign but will now be looking to change that with the Nationals from here. There is no real harm in the Nationals taking a chance on Waldron with this waiver claim. He will give them another pitcher with MLB experience and simply improve their overall depth.

In 50 career MLB games over four seasons split between the Padres and Blue Jays, Waldron has posted a 9-17 record, a 5.29 ERA, and 198 strikeouts.
