The Washington Commanders settled for 27-27 tie against the New York Giants in Week 5 after quarterback Jayden Daniels shockingly decided to scramble in the waning seconds of overtime, despite being in field goal range with no timeouts remaining. Both Daniels and Commanders head coach Dan Quinn have come under heavy fire for how the contest ended as Washington fell to 1-3-1 on Sunday. Quinn's already hot seat has presumably become hotter after the weekend debacle, but NFL insider Josina Anderson reported Monday that the 56-year-old's job appears to be safe for now.
Quinn is in his third season at the helm after serving five-plus years as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons and three campaigns as the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator. The New Jersey native led the Commanders to a surprising run to the NFC Championship game during the 2024 season (Daniels' rookie year), but Washington regressed to a 5-12 finish in 2025. Daniels was limited to seven games last season due to multiple injuries and has already missed two contests this fall after suffering a dislocated left elbow.
Quinn has a 61-62-1 career coaching record during his time between Atlanta and Washington, along with a 5-3 mark in the playoffs. The Commanders will travel to face the undefeated San Francisco 49ers (5-0) on "Monday Night Football" in Week 6 before taking their Week 7 bye.
