Polarizing Pundit Urges Steelers to Get Rid of 'Washed' DK Metcalf

Colin Cowherd argued that the Pittsburgh Steelers should cut DK Metcalf before the 2027 season after a quiet Week 8 performance.

A sports personality feels the Pittsburgh Steelers should make a drastic DK Metcalf move following a poor Week 8. Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd encouraged the Steelers to move on from Metcalf after the Pro Bowl wide receiver caught one of six targets for four yards in Sunday's 27-6 win over the Cleveland Browns. The 28-year-old dropped a wide-open deep target into the hands of Browns cornerback Denzel Ward during the second half.

"Omar Khan needs to cut bait with DK Metcalf," Cowherd said on his daily show. "The cap hit triples next year. He can't play, and he's driving Aaron Rodgers nuts." The Steelers acquired Metcalf and a sixth-round pick from the Seattle Seahawks for a second and seventh-rounder before the 2025 campaign.

Metcalf collected 862 yards and seven touchdowns last season but has settled for 378 yards and a touchdown this year. Cowherd believes the Seahawks got the better of last year's trade, but he feels the Steelers need to accept the sunk cost rather than prioritize Metcalf to justify the move. "You got worked," Cowherd told the Steelers.

"Don't make decisions to validate choices." After the trade, the Steelers signed Metcalf to a four-year, $132 million extension. Although his contract will no longer be guaranteed, his dead cap hit balloons to $38.4 million next season. Never been a route-runner," Cowherd said of Metcalf.

"...I don't know what you got to do. Take the dead cap hit this year, but this cap hit for DK Metcalf gets worse." According to Penn Live's Nick Farabaugh, Steelers offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio said they "haven't lost confidence in DK Metcalf whatsoever" despite his rough Week 8 showing. The Steelers have a bye week before playing the Cincinnati Bengals on "Sunday Night Football" in Week 10.
