Pro-ICE Christian Blogger Arrested By ICE

Conservative Christian blogger Samuel Sey has previously shared support for ICE.

Samuel Sey, a conservative Christian blogger and podcaster who has previously supported the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is in custody after being arrested by ICE officers on October 21. Sey, who lives in Ohio, was arrested at the Columbus airport. He has been in the United States since 2022 but is reported to have stayed beyond his authorized admission period.

Newsweek reached out to ICE and DHS via email for comment. Sey, 39, was born in Ghana and moved to Canada as a child before relocating to the United States. He is the author of the blog SlowToWrite where he shares essays on topics including abortion, Christian living, critical race theory and politics, and also co-hosts the podcast The Narrative with Aaron Baer, president of the Center for Christian Virtue.

Sey has publicly shared support for ICE in the past. In one post earlier this year, he said: “If you love America, you should support ICE. That doesn’t mean every member of ICE will always do the right thing (not even the Church is filled with perfect people).

But ICE is a force for justice. We should support them.” According to a GiveSendGo crowd-funder for his family, Sey lives with his wife and three children. His wife is “working to get him released on bail so he can fix any clerical issues that need to be addressed for his legal residence.” “My husband Samuel Sey entered the United States legally and has been working ever since in good faith with a lawyer to obtain permanent legal status.

Our family is trying to understand what went wrong in the process,” his wife, Annie, wrote in a statement to those who had donated. Sey has repeatedly called himself “an immigrant who supports ICE,” preaching against illegal immigration and calling it a “sin.” In one post, he said that anti-ICE protesters are “influenced by Satan." When Minnesota mother Renee Good was shot and killed in her car in January, Sey echoed claims that she was attempting to ram agents with her car, despite video evidence suggesting otherwise. You can be saddened by her death and admit that it was self-defense,” he wrote.

Sey was admitted to custody at Butler County Jail on October 21 where he is being held for ICE and is currently set to stay until it is arranged for him to leave the country. Contact Newsweek editors on this story: Matthew Robinson and Emma Lee-Sang
