The Ottawa Senators made a significant move this offseason when they traded their former captain Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers. Now, as the Senators prepare for their season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 3, they have revealed their new captain. The Senators have announced that defenseman Thomas Chabot has been named the 11th captain in their franchise history.
Seeing the Senators pick Chabot as their new captain is not necessarily surprising. The left-shot defenseman has been an important leader in their room for a while now, so it makes sense that he has been named Ottawa's latest captain. Chabot is entering his 11th season with the Senators in 2026-27.
The Sainte-Marie, Quebec native was selected by Ottawa in the first round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, 18th overall. In 569 career games, Chabot has posted 78 goals, 257 assists, 335 points, 553 hits, and 893 blocks. It will now be interesting to see how he builds upon these career stats from here after being named the Senators' new captain.
