The Washington Commanders dropped their first game of the 2026 NFL season on Sunday, falling to the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles with a 24-22 final score. Veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs caught a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to cut the Eagles' lead to 17-15. However, he cost his team 15 yards — and possible points — with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for jumping on the goal post at Lincoln Financial Field.
After the game, head coach Dan Quinn said the team would have gone for the game-tying two-point conversion had Diggs not been penalized. Instead, they kicked the extra point to remain down 17-16. On Tuesday, Diggs seemingly responded to this incident with a post on social media.
"No more tweaking 3..." he wrote on Instagram. "As soon as I wrapped my arms around it, I was like, 'Oh, I forgot,'" Diggs told reporters after Sunday's loss. "Back in the day — I've been playing for a long time — you used to be able to do that.
I've got to be better." The Commanders will look to get their season back on track in a Week 2 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
