The Pittsburgh Steelers traded cornerback Joey Porter Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick on Wednesday night. This trade ended a long and contentious contract standoff between Porter and the Steelers that extended throughout the offseason and bled into the 2026 regular season. Now, Porter will reportedly take the field for the Cowboys without a new contract extension.
ESPN broadcast personality Stephen A. Smith was critical of this trade from the Steelers' side during Thursday morning's episode of "First Take." "There is no question, the Steelers ain't better because of this. This organization is still acting like a gold standard that they are far from for many, many years now.
It's really pissing me off," Smith said. "Sometimes exceptions need to be made when you're unexceptional, and the Steelers are unexceptional." According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Porter could make his Cowboys debut as early as this Sunday's Week 4 matchup against the Houston Texans. Sunday's game will kick off at 1 p.m.
