Forecast models reveal the possible paths of Invest 96L, an Atlantic disturbance that meteorologists say has a chance of becoming the next named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season. An invest is a meteorological term used to label an area of disturbed weather being monitored for potential tropical development. "If the current trends continue, advisories could be initiated on a short-lived tropical depression or storm later today," the agency said. However, it added that environmental conditions on Friday were expected to become more hostile. If the system were to spawn a tropical storm, the next entry on the predetermined list of storm names for the Atlantic season is Dolly.
As of Thursday morning, the NHC gave the system a 70 percent, or "high," chance of tropical cyclone formation over both the next 48 hours and seven days, up from 60 percent on Wednesday. This is a developing story.
