The Utah Jazz are making a significant decision about their future, and one of their promising young guards could soon be headed toward free agency. Utah reportedly plans to decline the $4.99 million fourth-year team option on Isaiah Collier for the 2027-28 NBA season, potentially bringing his time with the organization closer to an end. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Jazz will not exercise Collier's option, putting the former first-round pick on track to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2026-27 season.

The decision comes as something of a surprise considering Collier's production and the relatively modest cost of keeping him under contract. The 22-year-old guard has averaged 9.9 points, 6.6 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals through his first three NBA seasons. Collier was selected with the No. 29 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft after spending one season at USC.

He quickly established himself as a capable playmaker, averaging 8.7 points and 6.3 assists during his rookie campaign. Collier continued developing during the 2025-26 season, improving his averages to 11.7 points and 7.2 assists while shooting 49.5% from the field. However, his role has changed early this season.

Through Utah's first six games, Collier has come off the bench in every appearance, averaging 7.5 points, 5.7 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 18.5 minutes per contest. The Jazz have struggled to open the season, posting a 1-5 record while continuing to evaluate their young roster. Keyonte George has emerged as one of Utah's primary offensive options, averaging 21.7 points and 6.3 assists through the team's first six games.

Despite Collier's reduced role, his ability to create opportunities for teammates could make him an intriguing option for teams seeking additional backcourt depth. Declining the option does not immediately remove Collier from Utah's roster. He remains under contract for the current season, giving the Jazz time to evaluate their options.

Still, the decision creates uncertainty surrounding his long-term future with the franchise. For Collier, the upcoming months could become an important opportunity to demonstrate his value, whether that ultimately leads to a new agreement in Utah or a fresh start elsewhere in the NBA.
