Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell discussed defender Jamal Adams' season-ending knee injury on Monday.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell confirmed Monday that Jamal Adams suffered a season-ending injury. O'Connell announced that Adams tore a quad tendon during Saturday's preseason opener against the New York Giants. The Pro Bowl safety will miss the entire 2026 season.

I know it's been reported, but testing did confirm a quad tendon tear for Jamal," O'Connell told reporters at Monday's practice. "Which was an absolute killer, just from what he meant to us in such a short amount of time. He's had such a great impact." O'Connell added that Adams will continue to travel with the team, which the coach feels will help the injured star and his Vikings teammates.

"He'll have a procedure to have that fixed, and then he's gonna be with us all season long," O'Connell said. "I think it's really important that Jamal knows -- and I've talked a lot to both him and his family about his impact on this organization. His ability to help young players, his ability to be a real beacon of energy ...

We're gonna have him with us. You guys will see him around, see him out here, see him around the building because he's a Minnesota Viking now and we want to make sure that he knows how important he will be to our players and team." The Vikings signed Adams this offseason after a bounce-back year with the Las Vegas Raiders. He played all 17 games after injuries limited him to just 15 combined games the previous three seasons.

Adams moved to linebacker for the Raiders, but the 30-year-old shifted back to safety with the Vikings this summer. He looked to join last season's No. 3 defense on his fifth team of the last four years. However, Adams won't suit up for the Vikings this season.

The 2017 first-round pick was carted off the MetLife Stadium field after suffering a non-contact knee injury in the opening half of Saturday's game.
